Retreat Dates
8 days
October 27 to November 3, 2025
Location
Takigahara village in Ishikawa, Japan
About the retreat
This retreat is an invitation to reconnect — with land, with food, and with ways of living that nourish both nature and ourselves.
We gather to reimagine our relationship with nature: how we tend to it, learn from it, and carry its wisdom into our daily lives. To rewild is not only to restore ecosystems, it’s to remember something ancient within us.
Over 8 days, we’ll move with the land. We’ll forage through autumn’s abundance, visit neighboring farms to learn how ingredients grow in harmony with wild plants, and learn traditional ways of harvesting, hunting, and handcraft. We’ll also cook together, sharing meals that tell stories of place, season, and tradition.
The theme of the retreat draws inspiration from the concept of rewilding: restoring nature until it can take care of itself and us again. What if we returned to the land and actually learned how to coexist? Rewilding is a journey, where every meal, every gesture, every mindful choice can become a seed for regeneration.

Accommodation
Takigahara is a satoyama (里山) - a wild region nestled in the foothills, right next to agricultural lands. Satoyamas are carefully nurtured by humans, creating harmonious ecosystems where nature and people thrive together.
We will be housed at Takigahara Craft & Stay, a restored, 130-year-old farmhouse that’s furnished with some of the greats in contemporary design, including Zaha Hadid, Achille Castiglioni, Eero Saarinen, and Jasper Morrison.
The guest bedrooms are located on the second floor in high ceiling rooms – housing sleeping nooks in bunk beds. Each bunk bed comes with a partition for privacy. There are shared bathrooms in the farmhouse.
Part of what makes this retreat special is the opportunity to step out of our usual routines — and that includes how we live together. While sharing a room might not be what you're used to, these shared spaces create unexpected moments for connection.
You are also welcome to explore the land around the village — wooded trails, cold mountain streams, and paths shared with the local villagers. A natural wine bar, “Moss Bar,” also sits on the property. Down the road, Takigahara Cafe serves simple meals and coffee, and draws both locals and visitors throughout the day.
